Protect your drill stem compon-ents with the subs and handling tools

ACE-O.C.T.G.provides a complete selection of subs, crossovers, pup joints and thread protectors. These products (except thread protectors) are manufactured from materials heat-treated to drill collar specifications and machined to exacting dimensions.

LIFT PLUGS

The Lift Plug is a small easy-to-handle sub that makes up in the top of the drill collar. It has a lifting flange that serves as a safety stop when drill collars without elevator recesses are being tripped out of the hole. The center section of the Lift Plug is bored out to reduce weight for easy handling.

Ordering Instructions:
When ordering or requesting quotations on Lift Plugs, Please specify:

  • Drill collar OD.
  • Drill collar connection size and type.
  • Cast or pressed-steel thread protectors.

LIFT SUBS

A Lift Sub enables the safe, efficient handling of straight OD tubulars such as drill collars, shock tools, jars, directional equipment and other tools by using the drill pipe elevators.

Note: For a box-up lift sub, add 6" to the overall length. Ordering Instructions:

When ordering or requesting a quotation,

Please specify:

  • Drill collar OD.
  • Tool joint OD.
  • Tapered or square shoulder.
  • Drill pipe OD.
  • Drill collar connection size and type.
  • Bore ID.
  • Cast or pressed-steel thread protectors.

DRILL COLLAR GRADE PUP JOINTS

OTI  pup joints are machined from integral bars of chromium molybdenum alloy steel heat treated to drill collar specifications.

Pup joints with tool joint OD less than 6⅞" have a minimum yield strength of 110,000 psi. Pup joints with tool joint OD less than 6⅞" and larger have a minimum yield strength of 100,000 psi.

DRILL COLLAR GRADE PUP JOINT

*10-1/2" on 3-1/2" Drill pipe size
**8" on 3-1/2" Drill pipe size

Pup joints are available in 10', 15' and 20' lengths and can be ordered to match standard drill pipe dimensions. The primary use of the pup joints is to adjust the overall length of the drill string to land at a specific depth while staying within the working area of the Kelly.

Note: Drill Collar Grade Pup Joints are not suitable for H2S service.

Ordering Instructions:
When ordering or requesting quotations,

Please Specify:

  • Nominal Size (A).
  • Bore ID
  • Tool joint OD.
  • Length.
  • Size, type and location of connections.       Example: NC 50 Box up x NC 50 Pin down.
  • Tapered or square shoulder.
  • Cast or pressed-steel thread protectors

THREAD PROTECTORS

Thread protectors should always be used to protect both the pin and box connection when drill stem components are being shipped or stored at the warehouse or location. Thread protectors  are available in three types:

Cast Steel, with lifting bail, are made from steel casting that meet ASTM specification A27 Grade 60-30 (60,000 psi tensile – 30,000 psi yield) and are equipped with heavy-duty bails suitable for picking up and laying down a drill collar with a cat line. Threads and shoulders are precision machined.

Note: Cast steel thread protectors should only be used to pick up or lay down one drill collar at a time.

Pressed Steel light-duty protectors are suitable for shipping and storing threaded drill stem compo-nents only.

Plastic light-duty protectors are suitable or shipping and storing threaded drill stem components only.

Ordering Instructions:

When ordering or requesting quotations, please Specify:

  • Drill collar OD range.
  • Drill stem component connection size and type.
  • Type of protector.

ROTARY SUBS

Rotary subs have two primary applications. They can be used to crossover from connection size to another or as the disposable component used to extend the connection life of a more expensive drill stem member. Rotary subs are available with box x pin, box x box or pin x pin connections. The connections are protected by a phosphate surface coating that minimizes galling on initial make-up. When subs are ordered to conform to API specifications.

The following rotary subs are available:

Straight OD Sub is used to connect drill stem members that have a similar outside diameter. The drill bit, downhole tools, heavy weight drill pipe and drill pipe can be crossed over using a straight OD sub.

Reduced Section Sub is used to connect drill stem members that have different diameters that warrant the cross-sectional         change necessary to accommodate different connections. This sub would be used to crossover large OD drilling tools or a tapered drill collar string.

Saver Sub is used to extend the life of the Kelly by taking the connection wear each time it is make-up to a drill stem component. The saver sub connection is sacrificed because it can be easily repaired or inexpensively replaced. The saver sub can be equipped with a rubber protector to reduce BOP equipment and casing wear resulting from contact damage with a lower Kelly connection.
